Pirates of the Caribbean is a dark water ride at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Disneyland. While each park's version has a different exterior and experience, the ride tells the story of a group of pirates in the Caribbean. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was based off of this ride, and its characters were added after the boost of its popularity.
Magic Kingdom version
Guests board the boat and pass through a dark cave. The phrase "Dead men tell no tales!" can be heard echoing throughout. On the left, two skeletons, presumably pirates, can be seen on a pile of sand with a crab. On the right side, a skeleton is seen steering a ship with inclement weather outside. A talking Jolly Roger on the left greets guests.
The boat plunges into darkness and guests are amidst a battle between Captain Barbossa and an island fortress. Barbossa demands the fortress to bring him Captain Jack Sparrow and threatens to destroy the city if not. As riders continue through, a pirate threatens to drown a man named Carlos if he doesn't reveal where Jack Sparrow is, while his wife encourages him not to listen.
In the next scene, an auction is seen happening with the townsfolk and the pirates. A woman presents her flock of chickens, when a female pirate says, "The gentlemen want the rum! Don't ya, boys!" with her statement met with cheers of acknowledgement. Continuing on, an overconfident pirate says that Jack Sparrow will never find the treasure without his map. Unbeknownst to him, he is right next to him hiding in a barrel. In the background, women chase pirates around with their brooms.
After passing through, the town is now seen ablaze with pirates celebrating and singing the ride's theme song, "A Pirate's Life for Me." Riders see prisoners trying to escape by luring a dog holding keys in his mouth, to no avail. The final scene sees Jack in the treasure room as he sings the theme song.

Disneyland version
After boarding their boat, riders take a relaxing ride through a bayou. A man in a hut is seen playing a tune on his banjo. Riders see a Jolly Roger above who warns them to stay closer together, and that dead men tell no tales before the boat plunges into the first drop. Riders are then led through a cave with “Yo Ho (A Pirates Life for Me)” echoing.
The boat goes through a second drop and riders pass three pirate skeletons on a beach, a pirate sailing through stormy weather, and a group sitting in the ship chambers. Riders last see a treasure filled cave before a skeleton transforms into a man and warns riders that they may not survive to pass this way.
The ride’s story now begins with the same experience as Magic Kingdom’s. However there are a few changes: after the prisoner scene, riders see a treasure room and pirates shooting at each other from both sides. Riders now see Captain Jack Sparrow, who successfully found the treasure. The boat goes back up to the surface, where they see the Barker Bird. Riders disembark on the right side.
